Record and Upload Media

Use the Canvas Media Recorder to share video or audio feedback with your students by simply using the microphone and webcam on your computer.

You can create Canvas Media Recordings in announcements, assignments, discussions, pages, quizzes, and Speedgrader. If you want to record and upload longer videos (over 6 minutes) we recommend you talk to one of our instructional designers.

Record New Media

Make sure that Adobe Flash is enabled on your web browser.

  1. Select the Media Comment Tool from the (A) formatting bar or (B) Speedgrader.

3. Select the webcam icon to record a video or the microphone icon to record audio (the example below shows how to record a video) and then click anywhere on the screen to begin recording.

4. Click anywhere to stop recording. To save your recording, click the Save button. To re-record, click the record button to record over the previous attempt.

5. The media will display in preview mode while still in the Rich Content Editor (as shown below), but will display on the page as an embedded video. Click Save to view the page.

2. Click Allow so Canvas can access your computer's microphone and camera. It may take Canvas a few moments to connect to the camera. However, if you have trouble recording, you may need to .
